Middle School Trends

What on earth goes on inside the heads of middle school kids? The things they wear! The things they enjoy!

I can't say too much against them, of course, because if I happen to take a peek at the photographic evidence of my middle school years, I am sporting no less than FOUR necklaces... at the same time, no less.

But still! This past year I noticed:

-Girls using shoelaces (I'm hoping they were clean... yeah, they were, I'm sure of it) as hair accessories. Not in the way you'd expect, either, as a ribbon, but more like a scarf...

-Boys wearing anything and everything to do with Naruto, regardless of whether or not they actually watch that particular show.

-Leggings (on girls, thankfully) under the smallest skirts I have ever had the misfortune to see. Honestly, do their mothers even see them as they go out the door?

-Anything that can be stuck to the face. i.e., fake moles that are actually stickers in the shape of hearts, initials, etc.

-Fake eyelashes were big this year... BIG and SPARKLY mostly... like neon purple... I think I'd get a headache looking through those things...

-Boys wearing under-armor (is that how it is phrased? One boy explained it to me... am still slightly bemused) as real clothes... apparently it's something you wear in baseball. Not sure why the little darlings wear it to school.

-White gel pens used as eyeliner in girls... it makes them look a little creepy, honestly. (And since they are regular ink pens, I can't think they'd be good on skin. Especially right near your eyes...)

-One of the boys this year dyed his hair pink. Not sure why...

-Another boy (heretofore adorable and sweet) cut off all his hair but left a healthy hank of hair in the middle as a make-shift mohawk, and it turned him into a punk overnight.

And many other ways I can't think of right now. Every year features something completely new and crazy, something everyone must do or must have.

I guess it has to do with their growing need to "find themselves" and make individuals out of themselves.

Still.

Honestly, sometimes I'm scared to go to work, after just picturing how my cute little 6th graders can change themselves overnight. It's scary.

I'm a 6th grader, but I'm going to be a 7th grader in August.

I'm actually suppose to be in 8th, but my mom held me back in second grade.

Anyway, I agree with you. My friends at school wear eyeliner and foundation; which I think is pretty gross, because I hate make-up.

Then, they wear really short shorts or skirts and the shirt they wear has a wide opening revealing their back or they wear a tank top.

Many girls and boys at my school use this one spray thing to spray on their hair so that it'll be blue, pink, purple, or whatever.

Many of the girls including my friends draw hearts and other things on their face or the would put stickers that they got from a teacher as a prize. They would even put glitter on their hair, face, arms, clothes, or legs. One of my friends actually sprinkled glitter on my hair which left a lot of blue glitter on my face, too and I couldn't get it off.

If you want to email me. Here is my email: bratty_kairi140@hotmail.com

I have experienced middle school fashions close up and have not agreed with most of them. So I know for a fact that although there are some scary fashions, not all middle schoolers are like them. If I were in a position to watch how people come into their styles I would enjoy it and laugh at the many mistakes we all make.

Well.....I'm not in 6th grade i'm in 7th, but I assure you some of the trends are just as bad.
1. Girls wear so much black eyeliner that they look like raccoons.
2. Girls wear skater clothes when they haven't been on a skateboard in their lives.
3. Guys wear skinny jeans(and I mean skinny), they also sag them. They come in colors from purple and red to black and white. Guys! They are called girl pants for a reason, guys should not wear them...oh yeah they also sag them down to about the middle of their thighs. I guss that makes a whole lot better.
4. Girls wear short shorts that barely cover their butts! It makes me want to vomit.
5. Guys also sport this super sexy hair...not really. It is really long like just above shoulder hieght. Also all of their hair is flipped in one direction across their face. And even though it's flipped they are always jerking their heads to "Get it out of their face"

I work in cafeteria of 7th thru ninth grade. My brothers works at juvenile justice for sex offenders under age 18. There he is told that at my school three fourths are bisexual, that the girls are playing lesbian to "get" a boy because boys like that. There are a lot of boys that come to school very gay. . . nail-polish etc., and they travel with girls but now I'm told there is an after school gay-club. Is this the new trend? Year 2011.
